You can do many things to speed the recovery after plastic surgery.
- Follow all of the guidelines provided to you by your surgeon.
- It is easy to say and hard to do, but try to avoid the stress early after surgery, relax and focus only on your recovery.
- Surround yourself with positive people, ignore all negative individuals.
- Sleep is one of the best and easiest ways to speed up recovery.
- Avoid all supplements and products that affect blood clotting such as aspirin, high doses of Vitamin E and some herbal products (Garlic, Gingko, ginseng, etc.).
- Taking supplements such as Arnica Montana, enzymes or multivitamins can help the recovery process but you must report all supplements you take to your surgeon.
- Don’t smoke. Smoking slows down the recovery process. Refraining from smoking two months before your surgery will help speed up your recovery as well.
- Eat healthy. This means eating plenty of fruit and vegetable, whole foods and trying to avoid heavy meal and processed foods. Try to avoid salty food and beverages, which can increase swelling.
- Don’t drink alcohol. It can also slow down the recovery process.
- Minimize your caffeine intake.
- Avoid heavy lifting and all activities that increase your blood pressure and heart rate for 2 weeks to avoid delayed bleeding. (After full tummy tuck, breast reduction or a combo surgery it can be 4 to 6 weeks).
A pre-operative health check-up includes several medical examinations.
However the initial step is personal and family medical history because the doctor must obtain relevant information this way. Doctor’s findings help interpret the specific values of diagnostic methods
Individual examinations follow right after the thorough interview. The basic step is to find important information about your health from your blood. We do biochemical and haemocoagulation blood tests.
Another significant clinical marker is the condition of kidneys and internal organs, determined from your urine.
Then ECG gives a clear idea of how the heart is doing. We check if the heart rhythm doesn’t change inappropriately.
Before breast augmentation, breast reduction and lift we do also mammography and breast ultrasound.
Clients older than 50 years of age need also x-ray of lungs and heart before the surgery under general anaesthesia.
The length of time before you can fly after breast augmentation, breast reduction, liposuction or tummy tuck depends on the extent of such surgery, the anesthesia used, length of your flight and your overall health condition. You should talk about it with your surgeon.
Prolonged period of immobilization in the plain can increase risk for the development of blood clots. Deep vein thrombosis resulting to pulmonary embolism is the main risk. More endangered are clients after long surgical procedures in GA, people with previous history of blood clots, using contraception or hormonal replacement pills, smokers and obese.
Make your flight safe
During the flight you should use antiembolic compression stockings, frequently perform calf pumping exercises (like you are driving with your foot on and off the pedal), stay hydrated, get up and walk around every hour while on the plane. In patients who have multiple risk factors, anticoagulation medication may be needed. We recommend you avoidance of heavy lifting.
I will book for you an expert chauffeur fluent in English, who is also very good at manoeuvring around the city. You will have no problem in reaching your destination safely and on time.
For a long time I cooperate with the company Prague Airport Transfers because they are simply the best.
Their vehicles are new and have air-conditioning. Free Wi-Fi is available while you travel. You will also receive a free printed visitor guide and a map from the driver.
Both transfers costs CZK 1.100 (approx. GBP 38). The driver accept payment through cash or credit card – whichever is suitable for you – and you will get an instant money-back guarantee.

Everything I have mentioned is very important and can significantly affect the final result of the surgery.

I am sure that postoperative care is very important. You will obtain top quality care after the operation at Brandeis Clinic. The nurse is available constantly during your hospitalization.
Right after the surgery you are taken to the post-operative ward where you are monitored until you are stable, at least for 2 hours. Sensors monitor all physiological functions, track heart activity, rate blood oxygenation and respiration. A central screen data from all the wards, so nurses have continuous overview of your condition.
Postoperative rooms equippment
Each room is equipped with a hairdryer, bathrobes and towels. Each bed has it’s own LED TV, satellite is matter of course. There is also a private bathroom with an alarm button to call for assistance in the case of nausea or other problems. All rooms are wheelchair accessible. Airconditioning in the rooms can be individually adjusted to increase or decrease temperature.
The body part operated can be positioned higher to avoid swelling. Adjustable beds and special medical mattresses from producer LINET guarantee a hight level of comfort. The correct positioning improves healing and eliminates postoperative complications.
After surgeries such as breast augmentation when it is important to be in semi-seated position to alleviate swelling after the surgery and reduce pain due to the pressure of implants. The semi-seated position is also appreciated by clients after a facelift and rhinoplasty, because it reduces swelling and pain.
After abdominoplasty are our clients in a “cradle” position which prevents stretching of the abdominal muscles, and thus reduces pain and accelerates healing.
Each bed has a heating pad. It is used because slight hypothermia occurs during the surgical procedure due to the effect of anaesthetics. For fast warming, the nurse positions a heating pad with 3 variable heat settings to regulate the bed temperature.
If your throat hurts after surgery it may be cause by dehydration since you weren’t allowed to eat or drink before surgery.
Another harm causes a tube put into your throat and attached to the ventilator to help you breathe during the surgery. The tube is irritating to the throat, tongue, and also vocal cords. After the tube is removed, patients often find that their throat is irritated and may experience burning.
Unfortunately it is very common. The most probable cause is always anesthesia.
When something like this occurs, don’t speak too much and drink lots of water. You need to keep the area lubricated to decrease pain. Sore throat can last up to 3 days after the surgery. I will advise you which remedy will help you.
If the patient is provided external support while breathing, he is much more likely to suffer from a sore throat once the operation is completed. Longer operations such as full tummy tuck together with liposuction cause sore throat very often.
Grouping more surgeries together can be a good idea – to a point – after which the risk of complications such as blood clots, bleeding complications, infections or pneumonia increases dramatically.
Length of surgery
The longer the procedure the more likely there can be complications. Most cosmetic plastic surgeons do more surgeries at once as long as it takes them less then 4 hours. Surgeons also differ in ability and time it takes to do the same procedure. When I consulted pictures of my client requesting tummy tuck and breast uplift after a big weight loss one surgeon estimated it will take 4 hours, the second was able to do both in 3 hours.
Patient’s Age and Health Condition
Combination of surgeries is common as long as the patient is in good health. If you are over 50 years old, smoker with a high blood pressure, you are not an ideal candidate for grouping more surgeries together.
Length of Your Stay in Prague
After more extensive surgery it is important to keep follow up visits to make sure everything is healing well, and there is no infections. You should stay in Prague at least 10-14 days after a mommy makeover and other more extensive surgeries. The longer you stay after surgery the more likely everything will be ok and you will satisfied.
Flying After an Extensive Surgery
After surgery, the body’s clotting mechanism goes into overdrive. It’s a protective mechanism. Therefore the risk of developing blood clots is higher.
If you are healthy, haven’t any close relative who has had a deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism and you do not have any blood clotting disorders, flying 14 days after for instance mommy makeover surgery would be safe for you. Some people at particularly high risk may be advised to have a heparin injection before a flight.
You should drink enough water and no coffee to avoid dehydration before and during the flight. You should avoid long periods of immobility. You shouldn’t smoke.

The day of your surgery is coming and you are nervous and excited. You are thinking about all risks of surgery and what can you do for a good result and faster recovery.
So, what can you do?
Do not smoke before abdominoplasty, breast augmentation, liposuction or breast reduction and lift as nicotine reduces the flow of blood to the skin and can cause substantial complications during the healing process. Do not drink alcohol for at least one week prior to surgery as it can interfere with anesthesia and affect blood clotting.
You can take a high-quality multivitamin one time each day to help prepare your body for surgery. You will be healthier and your healing process will be faster. You should avoid places where you can get a cold. But you can not take
- any Aspirin or medication that contains aspirin (salicylic acid) or derivatives of aspirin such as Alka-Seltzer, Aleve, Excedrin or Excedrin Migraine, Darvon, Dristan, Aspirin Ascription, Emprin, and Percodan since they can impede the body’s ability for normal blood clotting,
- any Ibuprofen containing medications either prescription or over-the-counter such as Midol, Motrin, and Advil because ibuprofen impedes blood clotting,
- megadoses of Vitamin E (but you can take a multivitamin once per day that contains vitamin E in reasonable doses),
- any medications containing naproxen or naproxen sodium (Aleve, Naproxen and Naprosyn) as it also interferes with the blood’s ability to clot,
- any herbal medications, many of them can have serious side effects and could complicate your surgical procedure by: interfering with blood clotting, adversely affecting your blood pressure, or could interfere with anesthetics used during your procedure, especially do not use Gingko Biloba, Garlic, and Ginger.
